Inclusion of Female Engineers in PEC Governing Body

Inclusion of Female Engineers in PEC Governing Body
According to a publication made by the American Society of Engineering Education, "Engineering by the numbers", 21% of Engineers globally are females(2015), the numbers are now expected to rise. Around 10 thousand engineers graduate every year in Pakistan and 18% of them are females.
Pakistan Engineering Council(PEC), established in 1976, is the professional body for the regulation of the engineering profession and accreditation of engineering education. PEC is the largest and the only representative body of the engineering community in the country. The current 54-member PEC cabinet has no females engineer representation at all. With 2021 Elective Candidate Sheets making rounds during this election season, it's alarming & unfortunate to see no female candidates.
As young engineers, we would like to step into a field of work where our "gender" is not considered a liability, a work atmosphere that is inclusive, where problems are taken up and decisions are made are based on equal representation. Therefore, a quota of female engineers in the General Body of PEC should be fixed.
Senator Engr. Rukhsana Zuberi, the only female to ever serve as chairperson PEC has kindly offered to pursue this petition with the related authorities i. e Senate of Pakistan, PEC, & Ministry of Science & Technology.
