Why this petition matters

Started by Jeffrey L

Kiddieland Amusement Park in Melrose Park Illinois was a family destination for eighty years. Along with iconic rides, the park added a giant neon sign in 1950 that had two giant children swinging on a candy striped pole. The sign welcomed guests for the next fifty nine years until the park closed its doors forever.

After two years of the sign being purchased from the auction, to being obtained by the Melrose Park community and being inspected and restructured, the sign was put on display at the Melrose Park Library in the parking lot for people to take pictures since leaving its home at the intersection of North and First Avenue.

In 2019, a request was put in for the Kiddieland sign to be repainted through the Melrose Park Public Works Department. The request was never approved. Now, three years later, paint is largely chipping off in many spots and rust is starting to form.

We are calling on the village of Melrose Park and the public works department to simply paint and maintain the Kiddieland sign. Please help us continue to preserve the now seventy two year old sign for future generations to learn about and appreciate for years to come.
