Petitioning Pacific Skyline Council

Reject the Boy Scouts of America's anti-gay policy

We, the Scouts and community members of Foster City, CA urge the Pacific Skyline Council to reject the Boy Scouts of America's anti-gay policy.

While there is a national organization to the Boy Scouts of America, the program itself is run locally, where politics do not always apply or make sense. We want to remind all of our families that Foster City Pack 447 supports the spirit and the ideals of Scouting and the council feels that this means that no single individual or group of people should be prevented from taking part in our shared experience. Our ambition is to bring our sons together to give them the guidance and skills to allow them to become the leaders of tomorrow by providing a fun and educational environment in which to grow. Foster City Pack 447 does not support or condone the exclusion of anyone from our activities based on faith, race or relationships. While the national organization may have its own views, intolerance of any kind will not find a home within the Foster City Cub Scouts.

Among service organizations, the Boy Scouts are increasingly isolating themselves with their discriminatory policy. Organizations including the Girl Scouts, the Boys & Girls Clubs of America, as well as the 4H Club all welcome gay kids as well as adult leaders.

We love the Boy Scouts, but we can’t support this policy. That's why we urge you to speak out against the ban on gay Scouts and leaders and adopt an inclusive policy like other troops, packs, councils, and lodges across the country have done -- so the Boy Scouts can maintain its relevancy, improve recruitment, and truly live by the principles it teaches its members.

NOTE: We encourage everyone to join this campaign, but if you're a current or former Scout or leader, please say so in the "Why People Are Signing" section. Thanks!
