Move Pacific Grove to a Renewable Energy Future

As a resident of Pacific Grove, I urge the city council of Pacific Grove to support Community Choice Energy (CCE) and join the Monterey Bay Community Power (MBCP) joint power authority without delay. Please give local residents choice. Please support local control over our electric power. Please exercise leadership by moving the city of Pacific Grove to a renewable energy future.

Don't be deterred by the recent decision of Monterey County Supervisors Alejo, Salinas & Phillips to delay adoption of CCE for residents of unincorporated Monterey County. The Supervisors only represent the unincorporated area of the county. Each city can vote for CCE independently.

Background: Monterey Bay Community Power  (MBCP) is a regional project among local government agencies that aims to provide electricity to residents and businesses throughout Monterey, San Benito and Santa Cruz Counties through the Community Choice Energy (CCE) model. CCE enables communities to choose clean-source power at a cost equivalent to PG&E, while retaining PG&E’s role in maintaining power lines and providing customer service. CCE lets each resident decide whether to get their electricity from MBCP or from PG&E. The CCE model helps ensure local economic vitality because money from rates paid by local customers stays local. Surplus revenues that would normally flow to PG&E will stay in the community to help fund renewable energy projects, create jobs and stimulate the economy.
