Pacific Crest Endurance Sports Festival started this petition to Pacific Crest athletes and Sunriver businesses

The Future of Pacific Crest in Sunriver:

As you are most likely aware, Pacific Crest is the largest sporting event in Central Oregon. Athletes and their families have grown to love this event and the community of Sunriver and have made it an annual tradition to launch their summer holidays. This year, Pacific Crest athletes came to Sunriver from almost all across the USA including Alaska, Hawaii and from 9 other countries.

There are many rumors that Pacific Crest may not be returning to Sunriver next year. That’s not accurate. We will be back in Sunriver from June 19-21st, 2020.

With that said, the Pacific Crest Endurance Sports Festival is in jeopardy of being relocated away from Sunriver in 2021. Our permit with Sunriver Village, where we host the finish line and post-event expo and party, ends next year and they have decided to not renew the permit after 2020 reporting that some of their tenants in the village experience a negative impact to their businesses due to parking and other issues. Sunriver Village has a responsibility to their tenants so we can understand if the event and the associated parking and traffic issues are a detriment to some. It’s important to note that it’s NOT that Sunriver doesn’t want the event. Our partners and the majority of the people who live in Sunriver and/or own homes there want to keep the event in Sunriver. There is a tremendous economic impact to the community and many businesses report it’s their busiest weekend of the year. The event also supports many local non-profits - last year the event raised over $1 million. It will be very difficult for local businesses and charities to replace these types of revenues. Unfortunately, as in most situations like this, there are probably a few, very vocal people/businesses that have caused the Village to make their decision. In a perfect world, the people/businesses who are Pro-Pacific Crest would convince the Village to change their mind and keep the event in Sunriver. Many of our athletes and partners have asked us to start this petition so their thoughts and opinions could be heard with hopes that the event could be salvaged in Sunriver. Our athletes love Sunriver and so do we!

It is important to note that once the news became public, we were inundated by various communities in Central Oregon that want Pacific Crest. As one community said to us “We travel all over the country trying to attract events to come to our community. The fact that Central Oregon’s largest sporting event is up for bid is extremely exciting” The event has a conservative economic impact of approximately $4 million but most likely above $7 million based on the underestimation of the costs used in the economic impact formulas compared to typical costs in Sunriver. We have been traveling around to various other communities in Central Oregon and we are happy to report that we now have many amazing options. We are currently proceeding down two paths…one path hoping we can continue in Sunriver post 2020 and the other path, deciding which other venues will meet our needs which include safe courses as our first priority, stunning scenery and an event experience that will be at least comparable to what we’ve all grown to love and expect. So the event will go on in 2021 and we will either continue to enjoy Sunriver or we’ll introduce our athletes to some new incredible areas as we celebrate our 25th anniversary in 2021. We will keep everyone posted as soon as the decision is finalized.

Our athletes and most Sunriver residents and businesses do NOT want Sunriver to lose this event! Communities across the country go to lengths to try to attract an event of this size to their community to promote tourism. Please voice your opinions, positive and negative, in this petition to allow the stakeholders to make the best decision for the best interest of the entire community.

Note: Before you hit TAKE THE NEXT STEP, scroll to the bottom of the petition and place your comments in the "Reasons for Signing box". Your comments are the most valuable. If you are asked to chip in money, we don't know what that's all about so just ignore that.

Thank you for your support
