An End to Excessive Fire Alarm Testing

All year, Alumni Hall has been having excessive fire drills and recently they have been testing out a new fire alarm system. The new fire alarm is a very high pitched frequency that emits over the loud speakers in our building on top of the regular fire alarm. The high pitched noise over the loud speaker is so loud it is heard all the way behind the Kessel Student Center, at a clearly audible volume. Loud excessive noise can cause deafness and hearing impairment. Loud noise can damage stereocilia, which are hairs in the inner part of the ear. These hairs make hearing possible, they are irreplaceable and do not regenerate once damaged. Not only are the alarms dangerous to our hearing, but they interrupt naps that busy and tired students take to refresh themselves so they may continue their studies, yet their studies are also interrupted by the alarms. All students in Alumni Hall have had many complaints about the excessive fire alarm testing and fire drills and would all like to put a stop to it since this has been occurring since early on in the academic year.
