PFAA Senior started this petition to PFAA Students and

Due to COVID-19, students have been struggling with their mental health and simply finding the motivation to participate in school. At PFAA, other grade levels have had major projects cancelled/delayed due to our given circumstances, except for the Seniors. Despite living through a global pandemic, not being able to access the materials needed for school, etc,. students are still expected to perform as if they were going to school on a typical day.

Traditionally, seniors are given priority and have the most impactful voice; however, the seniors have been experiencing a lot more challenges and responsibilities than the rest of the students attending Natomas Charter School– PFAA which include: college applications, applying for scholarships and financial aid, maintaining good grades, preparing for adulthood, etc.

Bottom line: let’s make senior projects optional! If it was optional then the students that would want to finish their senior projects could, and the students that would prefer to drop their senior projects could focus their time to work on academic and arts classes and prepping for college/adult life. PFAA should prioritize our student’s mental health and stability rather than continuing to require a project with limitations due to COVID-19. We understand that many seniors are very behind on their projects, and it has become a huge burden that many simply cannot handle. By making senior projects optional, seniors’ mental health and grades are very likely to improve.
