Prevention of the expressway between Cambridge and Oxford

The government are keen to build an expressway going from Cambridge to Oxford through Milton Keynes. The result of this would include: £3.5 billion pounds and the building of 100,000 houses in Oxfordshire. This is the same size as two cities the size of Oxford. This would have a huge impact Oxfordshire as it would result in too much pressure on public facilities and would ruin the rural countryside that this part of the Cotswolds is so famous for. As someone who is quite young, I can understand the motive behind the campaign (to produce a "brain belt" between the two cities by reducing travel time), however it would break my heart to return to my area when I'm older and find my home has become an urban landscape stripped of its picturesque surroundings. Furthermore, a knock on effect of this would be a decline in house prices. This is due to the fact that areas, such as Oxfordshire are very popular for commuting city workers who still want to live in the countryside; the mass building of houses would therefore result in a decline in popularity and therefore house prices. Ultimately all these costs and knock on effects are the result of a 30 minute quicker drive - is it really worth it? I also understand this isn't as much of a pressing matter compared to other issues, however please sign this petition, as I and much of the future generation of Oxfordshire, care about the preservation of the countryside and the beauty of our home.
