Maeve Robertson started this petition to Oxford University Press

It's stupid. Thoughts, disorders, and trauma are not relaxing and reclining in your headspace. They are seeded deep within your mind. This petition is not a meme, please help me change this buffoonery going on right under our noses.

This all started when I was in a Discord server and read the word "deep-seated" sent from a fellow member relaxing and chatting within it. This threw me into a seething rage. "How could they not see? 'Deep-seated' makes no sense at all, there is not a La-Z-Boy in my mind! It is clearly 'Deep-seeded', the far superior and truly correct option!" So I go to jest with them and say that they are mistaken and have used the word incorrectly. This results in a short battle of the minds, which my opponent so valiantly won when quoting, "Seat can mean a location, as in the county seat, or a body part that is the center of some emotion or function. For this definition, Dictionary.com and the American Heritage Dictionary both use this example sentence: The heart is the seat of passion. We don't often use the word seat that way anymore, so it's easy to see why people get confused about deep-seated. When you're thinking of something deeply felt or buried, it's not far fetched to think of a seed buried in the dirt. Nevertheless, deep-seated is the right choice. The Oxford English Dictionary defines deep-seated as 'having its seat far beneath the surface.'" (quickanddirtytips.com/education/grammar/deep-seeded-or-deep-seated)

I thought, "This is absurd. Of course that isn't true!" And then I googled it. I find a link entitled https://www.oxfordlearnersdictionaries.com/us/definition/english/deep-seated And, lo and behold, they are right. I was but a mere fool. But a mockery will not be made of my name! I claim that Oxford University Press is incorrect and that "deep-seeded" makes the most sense for the spelling of the word! Their tomfoolery has not gone unnoticed! Please, reader, help me show Oxford that they must change the word in their next edition of the Oxford Dictionary for the English language to truly be represented in full. You have the power to change the world for the better.

And to you, boople, I *will* die on this hill.
