Tate’s number should be retired because he was a 16 year old football player who was murdered trying to stop Ethan Crumbley.To honor Tate, his number should not be worn by any other student at Oxford High School. His number should be in the stadium as a memorial for his bravery.

If Tate had not have done what he did, there could be so many more students dead or injured at Oxford High school. All while the other students ran away from the gunman, Tate ran towards him, Tate’s coach Ross Wingert knows Tate very well and knows he was the kind of kid to do something without thinking twice about it, even though there is no surveillance footage of Tate approaching the shooter.

It had been confirmed hours later that Tate was shot. A sheriff's deputy put him into a squad car and tried to rush him to the hospital, but he died en route. "The Myres are very loyal people,” Wingert said. “Tate Myre keeps his word. He is probably the most amazing kid I've ever been around. I was very, very lucky to have been around with him." Even though Tate was only sixteen, he meant a lot to so many different people. For another student to continue to wear Tate’s number does not show full respect for what he risked and put on the line to save his fellow teammates, friends and family.
