Vieara Lakhani started this petition to Oxford Brookes Students

Last academic year, Oxford Brookes University received heavy criticism for initially deciding that students weren't worthy of a safety net despite the very unique situation we all found ourselves in. Eventually, after plenty of anger/pressure from students and stakeholders they decided to use said no detriment policy and this year should be no different.

This academic year, from the beginning in September 95% of teaching for most students has been online, we had a 6 week lockdown in November and we are about to have another lockdown until mid February at the minimum. This means this year has been even more disrupted than the previous, yet there have been no mention for any safety nets or extra help for students, despite having to do the whole academic year in a pandemic, with limited resources.

Instead of waiting until the spring to find out, as we have enough uncertainty on our hands currently with teaching, accommodation/houses etc, we should use this petition to let the university know early on what our intentions are and we want a safety net, just like plenty of other universities will be getting.

Universities currently petitioning for the reintroduction of safety nets include Cardiff, Newcastle and UCL with the expectations that this number will increase.

SIGN THIS IF YOU BELIEVE THIS ACADEMIC YEAR HAS BEEN MORE AFFECTED BY COVID-19 AND THEREFORE THEY SHOULD REINTRODUCE THE SAFETY NET FOR THIS SUMMERS RESULTS TOO.
