Westminster need a Private Members' Bill to legislate for equal marriage in N. Ireland.

Owen Smith should follow his conscience to bring a Private Members' Bill to Westminster, in the absence of a Northern Ireland executive, to legislate for marriage equality in Northern Ireland.

For too long totemic politics and grandstanding politicians in Northern Ireland have stood in the way of progress for LGBTI rights in the region.  Ironically, by virtue of the Good Friday Agreement, Northern Ireland citizens hold dual nationality; equally British as Irish and yet are denied the same equal marriage rights as their British and Irish counterparts throughout the Mainland and the Republic of Ireland.

Westminster needs to act to redress this injustice where a minority of NI Politicians have abused the Petition of Concern in Stormont as a mechanism to block the will of the majority of Northern Ireland citizens.

We call on Owen Smith and Westminster MP's to use this political impasse as an opportunity to further the rights of the Northern Ireland LGBTI citizens.
