Hope's Hands- Owen County Drug Prevention Coalition started this petition to Owen County and

Owen County- Where Community Matters.

Our local youth are the next generation of successful leaders. They are the mothers and fathers that will raise the next generation, the doctors that will heal you when you are sick, the mechanics that will fix your car that gets you from point a to point b and the teachers that will educate children. With that being said we have to protect our youth and teach them to make good decisions. We should not only teach them, but model the behavior we want them to mimic, especially when it comes to substance use, specifically alcohol.

Students are reporting getting alcohol from friends and parents the most.  They most frequently use alcohol at friends homes, parties, and their own homes. Parents/Caregivers and youth should know their state and local laws. An adult 21 years or older may purchase alcohol for their own consumption, however, it is illegal to provide alcohol to a minor. It is punishable up to $500 dollars in fines and/or jail time. No one is to permitted to drive after consuming alcohol. No matter the age.

Because home environment is key to making change in behavior, the Owen County Drug Prevention Coalition is implementing the Not in my House Campaign to raise awareness about social perceptions and community norms  of alcohol use and youth social access of alcohol. We encourage Owen County parents and citizens to sign this pledge saying, "I refuse to buy, provide, or allow use of alcohol, tobacco & other Drugs BY YOUTH in my home."
