Overturn the EOL (End of Life) Policy for Well-Maintained Private Cars
The Issue
My name is one amongst many who have been burdened by the unjustifiably enforced EOL policy for private car owners. A part of my family, my well-maintained, non-polluting private vehicle was forced into scrapping despite its pristine mechanical condition - all due to a law imposed by the National Green Tribunal (NGT). We should be penalizing polluters, not those of us who have dedicated significant time, effort, and funds to maintain our vehicles in a condition comparable to their first day on the road.
Across our nation, there are lakhs of families, majorly composed of individuals in their retirement years struggling, like myself, under this policy. It is a blatant neglect of the fact that many can't afford to replace their family car every 15 years. Furthermore, the tragedy of this situation extends into economic harassment, a predicament faced by countless families nationwide.
Fundamentally, the intention behind laws such as these is to ensure a sustainable future. However, forcing well-maintained cars into scrapping does the exact opposite. According to the International Material Data System (IMDS), discarding usable vehicles creates unnecessary demand for new vehicles, leading to waste of resources in manufacturing new cars.
The time is now to advocate for change. We urge the NGT and other related government agencies to reconsider the existing EOL policy and find credible, alternative solutions that punish polluters, not careful maintainers. Moreover, it should consider the socio-economic conditions of families and the environmental damage created by the scrapping of well-maintained cars.
We cannot let our hard-earned, well-preserved, and still viable vehicles be unfairly scrapped without raising our voice. Please sign this petition in an effort to better our environment and undo this economic harassment.
