Ovens are a condiment.

The Webster Dictionary defines a condiment as "something used to enhance the flavor of food" and a cake taste better after it's cooked, especially in an oven. Food is defined as "nutriment in solid form" so cake batter is a food by definition. Food + condiment = food with enhanced flavor, in this equation the food is the cake batter, the condiment is the oven and the food with enhanced flavor is the cooked cake.
