As a Mom, I am deeply, deeply, concerned and horrified by the violence that is increasingly penetrating into daily American life.  These mass shootings are commonplace and are happening everywhere: schools, 4th of July parades, churches, synagogues, hospitals, concerts, grocery stores, walmarts, the list goes on and on.  No place, no town, no family, and no individual is safe anymore.  If you look at the weapons that are used, its mainly high-capacity assault weapons.  Make no mistake, these are military weapons used for mass murder.  You don't need them to hunt, for self-defense, or any other legitimate reason.  You need them to inflict mass casualties.  Why should an ordinary person be able to have these military weapons when police officers on daily patrol don't even use them?  The answer- they shouldn't. 

You need protection?  Get a handgun..  You want to hunt?  Get a regular hunting rifle.  People claim the Second Amendment protects their rights to these weapons of mass murder.  It doesn't.  These types of weapons didn't exist at the time the Second Amendment was passed.  And the purpose of the Second Amendment was to protect yourself against a hostile monarchy, which we do not have.  What are these assault rifles being used for?  Slaughtering innocent civilians- men, women, and children, not on a war against a tyrannical government.  The Second Amendment doesn't protect your right to do murder.  And if politicians and the Supreme Court think for some outlandish reason it does, then guess what, we have a Constitutional method to change that Amendment.  So, LET'S DO IT!  Now is the time.  Clearly, we cannot rely on our elected officials to enact real meaningful change that will actually DO something.  So we must make our voices heard.    

To all those people who say "getting rid of these weapons won't stop all mass shootings."  Well, you are right.  But they sure as heck will save ALOT of people from dying,.  And anyone who says otherwise is flat out wrong.  Seatbelts and car seats don't prevent everyone in a car accident from dying, but we still make people use them anyway.  Why are we willing to let people  buy these guns, when we won't even let them drink alcohol or rent a car?  It just doesn't make any sense. 

If we can't agree to come together here and now on this simple issue- that there is a right to LIFE- a life free from random slaughter, then we are doomed.  Truly, we are doomed.   So. I hope you will help me get as many signatures as we can.  If our elected officials won't do it, we are going to have to vote them out.  I want my kids to live, and I want my husband and I to be alive for them, and I will do everything in my power to make this country a place that I am proud of again.
