Outlaw Hyaluron Pens and direct-to-consumer websites that sells dermal fillers and toxins
With the recent release of FDA's safety communication regarding needle-free devices for injection of Dermal Fillers, it is a clear testament that using these devices (more commonly known as hyaluron pens) are NOT safe. The risks of these procedures should be outlawed since most of these devices are on the hands of unlicensed individuals and obtain their products from non-FDA approved dermal fillers which is usually coming from foreign countries such as China and South Korea. Procedures such as these promote unsafe and can cause GRAVE danger such as vascular occlusion, tissue necrosis, trauma, hematoma, infection, blindness, etc. To make it worse, some, if not most of these procedures are done at home or in a non-medical facility. The products being used are being purchased are again, from a non-FDA approved source. Lastly, there are numerous accounts on popular social media platforms (YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, etc.) that shows information on how to perform these procedures as well as providing links on where to purchase the products. Keeping these accounts (with large followers at that) help these unsafe devices and procedures proliferate and promote serious injury and risk to the community. FDA is a regulating body here in the US that determines the safety of food (except from livestock, poultry, and dairy industries), medications, vaccines, and other biological products and medical devices that are intended for human usage.
FDA issued this warning for a reason. Health Canada has not authorized any needle-free dermal filler devices for sale in Canada for a reason.
It is time to stop this madness! FDA should outlaw these types of devices, these unsafe procedures, as well as these direct-to-consumer websites. Social media platforms should take down accounts who promote these types of procedures.
