Protection of the night sky through reduction of excessive and unwanted artificial light at night (ALAN) is the responsibility of the community. Light pollution, or artificial light at night, is the excessive or poor use of artificial outdoor light, and it disrupts the natural patterns of wildlife, contributes to the increase in carbon dioxide (CO2) in the atmosphere, disrupts human sleep, and obscures the stars in the night sky. We can do something about this by simply controlling our use of lighting which is very easily done but it takes action and some simple changes in our thought pattern. The concept that more light at night is good is a wrong thought and is actually negatively impacting our human health as well as our environment. We can do something about this condition. Many communities all world wide have adopted artificial light abatement policies to improve their lifestyle and we can join the movement and be an example for this area.

We the undersigned desire to PROTECT our dark skies from light pollution, and believe (in the best interest of the town) that the Kingsville Outdoor Illumination Committee should represent us to aid in creating a bylaw regarding dark sky compliant practices to be enforced by the town.
