Meet with North Oakland neighbors to discuss school options in our neighborhood and usage of the former Santa Fe Elementary School site.

North Oakland neighbors are concerned about the lack of high quality school options in our neighborhood as well as the current and planned use of the former Santa Fe Elementary School site in ways that do not benefit our community.
There is a rapidly growing population of babies and young children in our neighborhood. Families wanting to invest in this area and this city for the long term are worried that they will have to move if their schooling options don’t improve in the near future.
There is also an exciting resurgence of community organization occurring in North Oakland. Neighbors are collaborating for great causes and projects related to public safety, beautification, and community engagement. There is a growing need for a strong, accessible community school to which families can walk their children, and that all neighbors can readily support and partner with in order to successfully provide valuable community resources.
We fear that the former Santa Fe Elementary School site will continually be used as a temporary home for schools and children from other cities, districts, and neighborhoods. We feel this will negatively impact our neighborhood in regard to public relations and our community’s faith in the Oakland Unified School District. We deserve a strong neighborhood school in which we can place our trust and faith.
