The Oakland Unified School District has a list of  18 schools that are  potentially somen to be closed. These schools are serving predominantly students of color.

As a mother to 3 students, whom attend two of those schools on the list in Oakland Unified School District to be closed,  I’m pleading the help of the public and anyone willing to help and try help to put a stop and let the OUSD know we’re not alone and let our voices be heard. Instead of the district helping our students, teachers, other staff and parents. They’re causing more damage than they think they are.

Why are they targeting most of the schools that are predominantly historical to Black and Brown schools? This will cause a shift to all our student whom go to the schools on that list. Our kids are treated unfairly due to the color. Ousd doesn’t know what are the real struggles. Not many parents have the means to go out there ways to send there kids to schools so far away. Some even depend of school bus transportation which is so hard to get access to. So they depend on their home schools which are walking distance. With COVID still being around and the district planing to put over 20 something students per class isn’t high risk for cases to rise? They never think of us because they don’t care.  Even tho it’s been close to two decades the district has closed about 16 other Oakland schools supposably due to it budget. The problem is still there regardless of the decision they make. So Budget is clearly not the issue. As we all seen closing our schools hasn’t solved the problem and it will clearly not solve it any time sooner. This clearly has to stop. The district has to realize their mismanagement of funds and closing school will damage the future of our kids. Then with COVID on top of it is out of control. Our kids deserve a education they are OUR FUTURE. They will be the ones to bring up Oakland.

Please let’s our voice be heard to the school board so they the District to VOTE NO on school closures. Let’s try to put stop OUSD causing harmful to our kids education due to their school closure policy, OUSD need to be healed accountable for not being able to manage the OUSD financial correctly.
