We, the parents of the 7th-grade soccer team, are making a formal request for the addition of a soccer field at Saint Margaret Middle School. We believe that we have a remarkable group of young soccer players. A field would unquestionably support the teams of SMS for practices and games as well as promote school spirit and bonding amongst the students outside of academic education hours. Athletics, especially soccer, offers our students physical and social outlets for promotion and growth that cannot be replaced. Last year, the 6th-grade boys’ team led by Candice Giordano was undefeated in their league. This year, they advanced into a more competitive league and continue to demonstrate great promise! 

Furthermore, a field at the school is attractive and marketable to prospective families looking to join the SMS community. Most other schools in the surrounding area have some type of athletic field, whether it be a tennis court, baseball field, soccer field, or playground equipment.  Our request is more economic than the other fields listed and will provide an ideal space for other educational, physical, and social activities before, during, and after school hours across all age groups.

Our teams have been renting alternate fields and traveling for home games to The John Carroll School and as far as Saint Stephen School in Kingsville. Instead of paying other institutes for field use, it is logical to keep the funds within our school and parish. In addition, our field could be rented out as a training or game space for other teams and clubs to bring in revenue for the parish and cover the costs of maintaining the field. If approved, parent volunteers would act as parish coordinators to alleviate any extra burden to school personnel.

We hope to have assistance from the Boosterthon and fundraisers to aid in this request. We have reached out to the HSA President for guidance. We have also received a generous pledge of up to $4,000.00 from Towson Pediatrics towards the purchase of two soccer goals.

We are optimistic that you will see the benefits of a soccer field to the SMS school community and this letter will be received with the spirit of partnership and support that is intended.
