Concerned Parents & Residents started this petition to Electoral Commission of South Africa (Objections with IEC)

My name is Debyre Moses I come from the community of Eersterust, in Pretoria East. I need your support with my petition. We were dealt an unfair hand during the recently  concluded local government elections and we want justice.

For the past 5 years our community has experienced very poor service delivery and high crime rates. Our street lights are not working and even after countless reports to our local municipality nothing has been done. This lack of street lamps has led to higher levels of crimes, robberies are rife and we have witnessed many fatalities on our dark streets, with children almost being abducted. The Police in our area simply do not show up after crimes are reported.

We were excited to cast our votes at the local government elections. We wanted to make sure that our vote would be our voice and we wanted to elect active and competent leadership that would serve and prioritise our community. All our excitement turned into tears on election day because the majority of our community members, including myself, were turned away at the voter station and were not able to vote. We were informed that we were registered in the incorrect ward. Upon further investigation we realised that there was a demarcation project that was launched a year ago that affected our area that we as the community were not aware of that placed the majority of our voter base in a different ward.

Our Right To Vote Was Taken Away From Us! We have reported the incident to the Objections Board in the Independent Electoral Commission.

Help us to reclaim our vote by signing our petition to the Independent Electoral Commission calling for the voters that were turned away unjustifiably to have the opportunity to vote in their community.

Please sign our petition, so we can truly have a free and fair election!
