In Ireland let’s help our frontline heroes get their citizenship!

Non-European healthcare workers are calling on the department of justice to stop delaying their citizenship. Non-European healthcare workers shouldn’t  need to push for their citizenship applications to be processed faster. The delays are causing frustration and desperation. “More than 5,300 people had been waiting longer than two years for their citizenship applications to be processed at the end of November 2020 while a further 3,202 were waiting between 18 and 24 months. The Government’s immigration website states a straight forward application for Irish citizenship should take 12 months to process.”- Says the Irish Times.

We as a country need to be doing a lot more for our Non-EU healthcare workers. They have as much right to be a citizen of Ireland as anyone. Our frontline staff have been and are working so hard to save the lives of families, elders and children, they deserve their citizenship, let’s help them get it!

We are YSI students and our project is called RACE (right attitude creates equality) we are trying to prove and to raise awareness that racism and discrimination still very much exists in Ireland.
