The Issue

Subject: Appeal for Protection, Restoration, and Investigation Regarding the Demolition of Har Shri Nath Ji Mandir Dargah

We, the undersigned devotees, citizens, and members of the wider Hindu community, express our deep anguish and grave concern regarding the demolition of the Har Shri Nath Ji Mandir Dargah located in Jhandewalan, Karol Bagh.

This sacred site, also known as the Mandir/Gadi of Baba Shri Peer Ratan Nath Ji, a revered figure considered an ansh (aspect) of Guru Gorakh Nath Ji, carries a cultural and spiritual legacy of approximately 1400 years. It has been a place of worship, refuge, and community identity for generations.

The recent demolition of this historic shrine has caused:

Immense emotional distress for devotees and local residents
Fear and insecurity among Hindus regarding the future of ancient temples
A sense of loss for a heritage that cannot be replaced
Confusion and shock, especially in a time when the nation speaks proudly of protecting Hindu civilization and restoring spiritual sites

While large national projects—such as the Ram Mandir—are celebrated as milestones of cultural pride, the destruction of an old and spiritually significant Nath tradition shrine sends a painful and contradictory message. It gives rise to the feeling that heritage protection is selective, and that ancient sites without political visibility may remain vulnerable.

We, therefore, respectfully request the following:

1. Immediate halt to any ongoing demolition or clearing activity at the site.

2. Urgent intervention by central and/or state authorities to ensure the protection of all remaining structures and possessions belonging to the Mandir/Gadi.

3. A transparent investigation into how and why this demolition was permitted, and whether due process, consultation, and historical verification were properly followed.

4. Official recognition of the site’s 1400-year-old heritage, including its role in the Nath sampradaya and its cultural significance to the Hindu community.

5. Reconstruction or restoration of the Mandir in a manner that respects its historical identity, and safeguarding it from similar actions in the future.

Why This Petition Matters

This is not merely about one building—it is about trust, heritage, and the cultural continuity of a spiritual tradition that has survived for centuries.

Citizens and devotees deserve the assurance that ancient Hindu sites will be protected with sensitivity, fairness, and transparency.

The demolition of Har Shri Nath Ji Mandir Dargah has deeply shaken the community, and we appeal with folded hands for the Government to take immediate, corrective, and compassionate action.

HISTORICAL BACKGROUND:

950–980 AD — Origin of the Lineage

Our Guru tradition and temple heritage were founded over a millennium ago, creating an unbroken spiritual lineage of more than 1,200 years associated with the Nath Sampradaya and its revered masters.

2. 1947 — Partition and First Displacement

During the Partition of India, our community was forced to abandon its ancestral mandir in Peshawar. Families seeking safety and continuity of worship relocated to Delhi, carrying only their faith and lineage with them.

3. 1985–2000

History repeated itself when Hindus, including followers of this tradition, were again uprooted. Centuries-old temples were left behind, and the community endured a second forced displacement in just one lifetime.

2000–2025 — Establishment of Har Shri Nath Ji Dargah Mandir

In Delhi, the Har Shri Nath Ji Mandir became our only surviving spiritual refuge — a place that preserved our practices, our culture, and our identity. For 25 years, it served as the heart of a community with nowhere else to call home.

2025 — Demolition and Third Loss

Today, the demolition of this temple by authorities marks the third time in our history that we have lost a sacred place of worship. For a community already twice displaced, this act inflicts profound emotional, cultural, and spiritual trauma.
