Deny bail to rapist!

On the 4th of July 2020, Khensani Msindwana, 20 year old BA Law student at Rhodes University was brutally assaulted and raped.

This was not her perpetrator’s first time—women have spoken out against him in the past, including Sethu Kiti.

Today—the 15th of July—he will ask the court to release him on bail.

Our country recently made international news, once again as a result of ‘the scourge of gender based violence in South Africa’—a phrase so often used, it has all but lost its meaning. ‘The war on women’s bodies’—another oft-used but hardly appreciated phrase—has not abated and will not abate unless we take a stand in our communities.

We submit that it does not serve the interests of justice to release this predator back into our community—indeed, we submit that he presents an immediate and very real threat to the young women of our community.

As a community, we therefore ask that bail be denied.
