Open visitation for families unable to afford calls and texts with inmates
Why this petition matters
Hi my name is Olivia, I am 26 years old and I am a mother of one and soon to be two.....my boyfriend is currently incarcerated in the Leon county jail house .....while being incarcerated we have had the hardest time communicating. Tablets do not work or are broken upon arrival, calls are staticky or sometimes you can hear them but they can’t hear you or they can hear you but you can’t hear them. Understanding that they are incarcerated and cut off from the world they should be able to talk and communicate and SEE their loved ones and their loved one able to see them and know how they are physically doing. Calls and texting are extremely expensive and since COVID19 prices have increased, some families CAN NOT AFFORD to put money on books and or calls and texting so inmates can’t speak or see families and families can’t see inmates. Attorneys also can’t speak to inmates due to COVID19 making inmates sit and wait for court dates and only able to speak to their clients threw polygram because they don’t want to talk on recorded lines. People take Precautions everyday to protect themselves from COVID19 and I’m sure are willing and more then able to do so to visit their loved ones! I think Leon county jail should open visitation for the public of course with tests and Precautions for the safety of staff and families entering the jail house!
