In our Schools today depression and suicide, are on the rise. These horrific topics should not be a normal, and should be taken into major consideration. With the recent loss of Summit High School Freshman Deshaun Adderly many members of our community especially students are feeling the shock, and terror of this situation. The looming sadness in our schools on today December 15th have brought this issue to attention in a very unfortunate way.
There are many ways this series of unfortunate events can keep from becoming a norm. The best way to fight the issue, is to speak up, to speak up whenever you see or hear any signs of sadness, loss of motivation, and an overall loss of motivation to live. These things are difficult to notice for sure, but learning from mentalhealth.gov there are some things we can observe that may be warnings of suicidal thoughts. Including, Questioning the reason of staying alive, saying that they are a burden to others, or assuming they have no purpose. Some other things we can take into consideration are if the person is increasing the use of drugs and alcohol, behaving reckless around others and showing constant mood swings.
This issue should not become a normal in our community and this problem needs to noticed. Everyone needs to become fully aware of this, because change needs to happen, it must.
