IRMC claims to seek the preservation of a family atmosphere at our community hospital.
Yet the facts show that the leadership has behaved in exactly the opposite way.
• 80 of 370 nurses have left the hospital in the last year, far more than in a normal year
• Morale is at an all-time low among employees
• Non-union staff are among the many leaving rather than work in such an atmosphere
• Take home pay for many employees, including nurses, has shrunk below prior years due to outrageously high health care costs imposed on employees
It should be obvious that creating a situation where nurses and fellow employees are forced to pay higher healthcare cost, more stressed, and looking for the exit, bodes poorly for the entire hospital, especially the patients.
Therefore, we the people of the communities that support the Indiana Regional Medical Center, hereby demand that you, the board of directors chosen to lead this community facility for the peoples’ benefit, do right by the nurses and other employees who keep us safe and healthy:
First, direct your bargaining team to renegotiate the expensive health care plans and paid time off leave imposed on the union nurses.
Then, as they return to the negotiations, instruct your bargainers to work toward a mutually beneficial agreement that LIFTS UP, not PUSHES DOWN, the hardworking nurses who provide the health-restoring and life-saving care we need as patients at our IRMC.
