Facebook started out with great intent. Mark Zuckerberg and his colleagues developed a platform that allowed the entire world to connect and communicate. The idea, and implementation, has had many amazing results across the world. We're now able to do things we've never been able to do before.

The year is now 2019. Facebook has more users than the entire individual populations of every single country. This is an enourmous amount of power and influence over over 1.7 billion people. The amount of data Facebook holds for each and every one of us is scary to say the least. Now that does provide users with positive ad experiences - people don't mind ads that they may actually be interested in. But have they gone too far? Facebook's algorithms can choose exactly what you're going to see when you're just casually scrolling through your news feed. With the level of data they use to do this, and the mysteries behind what they use to determine this, some could say it is borderline mind-control.

Facebook has a huge potential to achieve its goals of connecting the world and maintaining a safe, positive community. But time and time again, endless security and privacy issues have come about and all we keep getting is apologies and false promises to "fix the issues". How many times have we been assured that things will "get better"?

Now Mark Zuckerberg is arguably a genius. He went to Harvard for psychology and computer science, two things that he is passionate about and proficent in. He dropped it to pursue Facebook. In his defense of that, he probably didn't even need it. But what he didn't go to school for or learn over time is business management. He was thrown into the ocean without a life jacket. At this point, you would think he would have learned these skills as he did with everything else he is good at. But with all the scandals, hacks, leaks, and horror stories from former and current employees, it hasn't happened yet.

Let's take a look at another, equally powerful company. When Google started its massive expansion, Larry Page and Sergey Brin realized they were in over their heads. They too, were very talented smart individuals. But they knew their limits. When their company was growing exponentially, they hired Eric Schmidt to take the reigns and help guide them in the right direction, which ultimately led to Google's massive success and considering the size difference, way fewer scandals.

Unfortunately, Zuckerberg doesn't know his limits. He thrives for power and lets his ego get the best of him. With over 1.7 billion people demanding that their data be kept secure and used appropriately, Facebook needs help. Government regulations are a good idea, but can mainly only fine these companies when the "goof up". A $1 Billion fine to Facebook is still pocket change. So they don't really care, they're not afraid. But just as Google did, Facebook needs help. They need to find someone to go in and get the company under control, as Zuckerberg has repeatedly proven he cannot do so.

So Mr. Zuckerberg, please make the call. Do you value your ego and your power more than over 1.7 billion user's lively hood, security, and privacy? You don't need to be banished but you need help and oversight and you should admit it like any other smart businessman or woman would. You make that call.
