While trying to locate a lost pet "Crusher", we were told that if the Texas Department of Transportation picked up a deceased pet that they would not attempt to find the owner. This is outrageous. Our fur-babies are beloved members of our families. If there was a car accident, the State of Texas would do everything in their power to find the family of the victims. So why does TX DOT treat our beloved fur-babies differently? Why do they treat them with indifference. 

I have lost several pets and fortunately, I was able to recover them. This time all our family has is rumors of our beloved pet's passing which makes this loss harder than all the others. We were able to say goodbye to the others. Crusher deserves to be mourn with respect and my 4 year old niece has a right to say goodbye. We would love to cremate her so that she can be with us. But due to TX DOT's policy, we may never be able to mourn her with respect and dignity.

I am starting this petition to have the laws and/or policies changed so that TX DOT has to take into consideration Texans feelings when dealing with a deceased Pet. They should see if a pet is chipped and if so, they should notify the family. If they do not want to find the owners, they should contact a local shelter or rescue group that is willing to find and notify the owners of the lose. We would love o say goodbye to our beloved Crusher. But unfortunately, we may never know the truth due to TX DOT's policy of not caring.
