WHEREAS the residents of the City of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada’s national capital, have been under siege by an unlawful, occupying force of insurrectionists funded in part by foreign interests since January 29, 2022;

AND WHEREAS the stated goal of the insurrectionists is to occupy Ottawa until such time as Canada’s democratically elected federal government is overthrown;

AND WHEREAS Ottawa Police Service (OPS) Chief Peter Sloly has stated the OPS does not have the resources or the tools needed to put an end to the unlawful occupation of Ottawa, and has further admitted there is no “adequate and effective policing that could resolve a city under siege, that is a democracy threatened by a nationwide insurrection”;

BE IT RESOLVED that we, the undersigned, demand Mayor Jim Watson and members of Ottawa City Council immediately call on Ontario Premier Doug Ford and Ontario Attorney General Doug Downey to request without delay federal government assistance to take over public safety and security operations in the City of Ottawa to end the unlawful occupation of our nation’s capital;

AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that, should a request for federal assistance by Ontario’s Premier and/or Attorney General not be expedited or deemed to not be forthcoming, the federal government unilaterally intervene to secure, defend and protect federal properties in downtown Ottawa from the occupying insurrectionists and restore law and order in the nation’s capital.
