There are 16 confirmed cases of coronavirus in LA county. Italy, which is roughly the same size as California, has officially been placed on lockdown. 16 days ago Italy had 21 confirmed cases, as we can see this virus is spreading rapidly and Otis needs to take action now before anyone on campus is affected. The CDC stated that those at higher risk are those who are older, and people with chronic health conditions such as high blood pressure, diabetes, and lung disease. Many people on the Otis campus are already having to choose to put their health at risk by attending school. It takes 2-14 days for someone to start showing symptoms, it's possible that someone could come onto campus and infect a few people without the Student Health and Wellness Center even knowing. We can't wait until the first case is on campus, we must take action before this gets more serious.

many schools have already suspended in-class instruction, including UC San Diego, San Jose State, San Francisco State  UC Berkeley and Stanford. Switching to an online method of instruction would not be difficult for Otis college to execute. We already use zoom to perform some of the LAS classes. Recently Google announced it would offer free premium hangouts (video calling) to anyone with a google account to help schools switch to online instruction. Premium hangouts would allow 250 participants per call, Live streaming for up to 100,000 viewers within a domain, and The ability to record meetings and save them to Google Drive. Another option would be using the post option in o-space to communicate what's expected.

This is not a student issue nor a faculty issue, this is a community issue and it is our duty as members of that community to take a stand.
