Our students love OSU but won't do on line school
Dear President Johnson:
We, the undersigned parents of current OSU students, are writing to implore you to keep all classes in-person for the upcoming school year.
Our students are proud Buckeyes, all of whom deeply love the spirit, history and culture of OSU. Many of them have been looking forward to the opportunity to call themselves Buckeyes since they were young children and -- for all of them -- OSU was their first choice. Many could not have imagined going anywhere else.
That said, our children’s education and preparation for their careers and lives is the top priority for their college experience.
Some of us have kids who have learning challenges, making on-line learning especially cumbersome and challenging. Some of us simply don’t believe that on line classes are an effective replacement for in person culture and classes. Some of us worry about our children’s mental health, their ability to create social bonds while in college and the lack of structure and schedule that has come with many on-line learning experiences.
No matter what the reasons, everyone who has signed this petition agrees that our students need to be interacting in in-person classroom environments to have the most enriching educational and developmental experiences.
On line classes and learning are not an equivalent or acceptable substitute.
If classes are on line, we will be left with no other option than to transfer our students to institutions where all classes are offered in person.
Thank you very much for your time and energy during this most difficult period. We know these are not easy decisions for you and your administration, and we truly appreciate your efforts. We simply need you to understand in, hopefully, clear and concise language our collective position.
Kind Regards,
Kim Roemer
