My neighbor whom I call uncle passed away due to liver failure after consuming alcohol for many years. His wife left the village before he passed away to work in Bangalore as a domestic help to earn money for their two children. There are so many stories like this in our locality about substance abuse destroyed family's harmony and reason for domestic violence, migration. 

There is hardly any adult in my village who is not addicted to alcohol and tobacco. The consumption of tobacco and alcohol (rice bear, mahuli etc) starts from an early age. So it becomes difficult for them to give up later. This always disturbs me seeing school children, adolescent boys, teens chewing gutkha and drinking rice bear. 

My name is Deepika Minz and I am a social work student. My village is Amko Simko, in Kuarmunda block of Sundargarh, Odisha. I am committed to see the children of our gram panchayat to live a healthy life. My request to the honorable Chair person of Odisha State Commission for Protection of Child Rights to create a special task force for our Gram Panchayat Raiboga to work with parents, children not to be trapped in the addiction of gutkha, alcohol and other locally available means of substance abuse.
