Chess Tables in Orlando Parks

When people think of "chess in the parks", they think of NYC.  NYC has dominated the cultural chess scene for decades.  We believe that Orlando is the city that can challenge that status.

Last year a video of Grandmaster Maurice Ashley playing chess in the parks of NYC went viral.  Chess players and non-chess players alike loved the video and shared it.  It made it all the way to ESPN.

Playing chess in the parks is a cultural fixture of art and intellect in NYC.  Unfortunately, only 1 or 2 major cities have established a chess scene in their parks.   NYC has beautiful chess tables and a beautiful culture of strong chess players putting on a show with lightening quick moves that catch the eyes of players and non-players alike.  It inspires the minds of young people and even led to the development of players like World Champion Bobby Fischer and American chess hero Hikaru Nakamura.

There are studies that support the benefits of chess including helping slow the onset of dementia and helping children in school.   Countries like Armenia have chess woven into their school curriculum.

We already have chess in 90+ schools in Orange County so let's make chess a fixture in Orlando parks as well.  Orlando is a city of art, intellect, sport, competition, and acceptance.  Chess would fit beautifully into that scene.

We can have chess tables installed in our already beautiful parks and show everyone how many people will go out and play.  Our chess community in Orlando is strong and we will add to the beauty of our parks.  We will put on an artful and intellectual show of prowess on a daily basis, especially the weekends.   People going to the park casually for a Farmer's Market, to exercise, or just to be with nature will all be in awe of our lightening quick moves, intellectual prowess, and fun banter.

Let's make this happen.  NYC we are coming for you!  #Orlando
