Christopher Radovich started this petition to Director of Public Works Orinda City Council

I live on Spring Road.  My wife and I bought our house about 3 years ago.  At that time we lived in San Francisco and were looking for a nicer and safer place to raise our daughter who was then 6.  We want to move into a more rustic area where it would be safe for us to hike and walk in the area.

We would walk as a family from our house to town, eat and then return home.  The walk was safe, good for our health, and relaxing.

We knew that part of the way was very close to the freeway but because of the dense vegetation including large trees we considered the walk safe from an errant car. Now since the city has had the area mowed down I can no longer consider this a safe walking path and part our reason for buying where we are has been destroyed.

The large trees were a barrier that gave use the feeling of safety.  Now there is nothing to stop the errant car.  There is no crash rail on the freeway and no large trees to protect us. My daughter will not be able to use the elementary school bus stop that is exposed to the freeway.  Cars have to use high beams at night to see the pedestrians on Brookwood and now those cars will be blinded by oncoming traffic on highway 24 and vice versa.  New cars also have switched to led lights which can shine up to 600 feet.

Life has become less comfortable.  I will not take my family on any walks to town now. That is lost for us until it can be made safe again.  I request a crash barrier and temporary fencing with visual barrier to address these new issues that have been created by the city until a permanent solution can be found.
