Veronica Bianco started this petition to Oregon State legislature

Mt. Hood was originally named Wy’East by the natives in the area before the colonization of the Pacific Northwest. It was given its current name (Mt. Hood) after a “discovery” expedition in 1792, when a white explorer, George Vancouver, renamed the mountain in honor of a British Admiral named Samuel Hood, who never actually set foot in Oregon. We believe that it is in the hands of our generation to restore the name by which this mountain was known for millennia. We hope you will support our efforts! Thank you!
