Being in school for 12 years, maybe more and not having the chance to go to prom or walk across the stage to receive something you’ve been working hard for, is something that no one wants to hear. Even as a parent, seeing your child succeed and going on to the next chapter in life is a big deal, and it’s just flat out not fair for one class (college students also) to be punished for a pandemic no one had power over, and for schools to not even take in consideration of a delayed graduation or prom feels like no one is giving us the empathy we actually deserve. We have the right to also walk across the stage and have a memorable prom night just like everyone else. That’s why pushing the dates back to mid or late June maybe even July, would still give us closure to our final year of high school and satisfactory of improvising during a very tragic time. If extra precaution is needed, gloves and/or masks can always be worn, because “graduating” virtually from a computer WITHOUT A CHOICE is just pointless, heartbreaking, and a reminder of what we never had the chance to do, and since I haven’t heard anyone else try to speak up about this issue, I can be the first to stand up for my class, even college students and hopefully encourage them to also start petitions for their states.
