Support Vegetarian & Vegan Options at the Orcas Food Co-op

The Orcas Food Co-op Mission & Values statement affirms that “owners, customers, food producers and the community will have equitable access to high quality, local and organic foods that support diverse nutritional needs.”
Therefore, we the undersigned Orcas Food Co-op member/owners and customers, respectfully request that the Co-op management team and board support our diverse nutritional needs with the following actions:
1) Reorganize the deli food case so that customers desiring vegetarian and vegan items can more easily make their selections without having to sort through the entire case.
2) Offer at least one vegan soup and bakery item every day. (This can often be done simply by substituting Earth Balance or coconut oil for butter.)
3) Offer more vegan options on the ‘Build Your Own” sandwich menu, such as tempeh, tofu and vegan cheeses.
4) Consider substituting Veganaise for mayonnaise in deli items that are one ingredient away from being vegan. (eg. potato salad)
