With the cancellation of Liturgical Masses across Orange County by both the mandate of the Diocese and the suggestion hindering public gatherings by government officials, us faithful Catholics are concerned this restriction will intrude on celebration of the most important Liturgical Season of the year: Easter.

Nationwide, Catholic churches have allowed for both the state and scientific community to determine when it is acceptable for parishioners to receive the Eucharist and receive the graves therein. These are the same communities that advocate for the deaths of millions of unborn children every year, and produce drugs and chemicals that sicken hundreds of thousands. In addition, to impose governmental restriction of public worship on individuals is a severe and unacceptable violation of the 1st Amendment.

Although Catholics still believe Easter to be a Day of Holy Obligation, we understand the concerns of those who do not wish to participate out of a health risk to themselves or others. Therefore, we will not ask this Mass of Easter to be compulsory. However, we do ask that celebrants be available on the Day of Easter, Sunday, April 12th, to allow parishioners the option of celebrating the Resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ and the physical graces of the Eucharist.

We understand that this is a time of unprecedented suffering, and we as Catholics ardently pray and act for the benefit and healing of this world from the Coronavirus pandemic. However, as Catholics and moreover as Americans, we strongly believe in the importance of pursuing salvation beyond our worldly sufferings, and the ability to pursue that salvation in public. As the most Honorable  Pope Benedict XV (pope during both World War 1 and the Spanish Flu Pandemic) said about pursuing God’s glory through all things, “Wherefore like Saint Paul, every preacher devoted to the salvation of souls should have an eye not to his own advantage but to God’s Glory”.

May God keep and bless your souls through these uncertain and dangerous times.
