Maintain Bus Services to Whispering Oak Elementary for Alexander Ridge

Alexander Ridge Community is comprised of 198 newly-constructed homes south of Avalon Road. The students who attend Whispering Oak Elementary were provided bus services for the 2015-2016 and 2016-2017 school years due to the hazardous designation of the intersection of Avalon/Tilden/Mann roads. While the road construction at the intersection of Avalon/Tilden/Mann roads had completed, the intersection should still be deemed hazardous due to multiple factors, including the lack of crossing signals, dangerous sight lines due to the grading of the road and a lack of street lights in the area.
Additionally, revoking the bus services from this community will increase the traffic and congestion at Whispering Oak, where traffic is already a major problem. Adding additional vehicles to the car loop while student population increases by more than 25% over last year is just adding to the daily congestion for both drop off and pick up times, where wait times already approached 30-40 minutes. The residents of Alexander Ridge were highly active in using the bus services to help reduce congestion at the school, with over 30 elementary students using the bus every day.
Lastly, a bus from the Lake Avalon area must travel past the Alexander Ridge community to proceed to the Elementary school, so no bus will have to go out of its way to continue services.
We, the residents of Alexander Ridge, are asking Whispering Oak, OCPS and District 4 elected representative Pam Gould to reconsider and continue the bus services for Alexander Ridge.
Thank you for your reconsideration,
Alexander Ridge Residents
