Dear Concerned Resident:

The Project is a massive, 4-story, 45 ft. high, 65,000 sq.  ft., assisted living and dementia facility with 82 units, housing 97+ residents. There are far too-few parking spaces - barely 64 - in a planned two-story underground garage.

HUG vehemently opposes this Project for the following reason ‒ among many others:

  • EXTREME DANGER TO SENIORS: exposes eldercare/dementia residents to life-threatening risk in case of wildfires, earthquakes, landslides and flooding; seniors will be isolated, cut-off from vital medical care without any practical means of evacuation.
  • TRAFFIC NIGHTMARES: 2-years of major subterranean construction and hauling, followed by operations which drastically increase vehicle congestion and parking shortages from 24/7 staff, visitors, large commercial deliveries, ambulances, doctors and service visits; potential accidents on Palisades Drive (and/or additional red lights); high levels of noise.
  • MONSTROSITY: 45 ft-high, 4-stories, 65,000 sq ft on a 44,000 sq ft lot ‒ 2/3rds the size of Caruso Palisades Village on 1/3rd the land, and twice the height on hillside fill… crazy!
  • BLIGHT ON ENVIRONMENT: Evicerates views  and scenic corridors of our park-protected wilderness areas and denigrates enjoyment of our precious natural bounty, by residents, visitors and nature lovers for generations to come!

The Project will obliterate scenic views, create severe street parking shortages, and increase traffic congestion, and will result in with ambulance noise at all hours.

The Project currently has no licensed operator, and there is no practical way to evacuate  seniors if and when Palisades Dr. is blocked by raging wildfires, earthquakes, rockslides or floods. The nearest emergency rooms are up to 45-minutes away in Santa Monica, and the closest trauma center, UCLA Medical Center in Westwood, is even more remote.

During construction, large equipment will excavate more than 1.5 Million cubic feet of dirt, which must be loaded onto large trucks, 6 per hour, driven down Palisades Drive, Sunset and PCH, for the 84 mile + round-trip journey to a dump in Moorpark. Noise and dust will be stifling.

The Zoning hearing is set for Oct. 4 at City Hall. It is URGENT that you email and phone opposition to City Planner, Courtney Shum at courtney.shum@lacity.org, phone: 213.978.1916.

We must act fast. Emails must be received by the City by September 28 to be considered at the Public Hearing on October 4, 2017. THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP.

Thank you!
