The West Hawaii Parks & Athletic Corporation (WHIPAC, a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization is actively involved in planning the Kealakehe Regional Park. This park will offer very needed sports fields & courts, pedestrian & bicycle pathways, and many opportunities for healthy exercise to improve the quality of life in our community as well as accommodate larger island and statewide tournaments and events.  Presently, Kailua-Kona is extremely limited in the amount of space available for local town organized sport and is not able to accommodate all of the communities needs. This petition urges the United States Fish and Wildlife Service (US F&WL) to exclude all lands within Area 35 (including the planned Kealakehe Regional Park) from the proposed critical habitat designation that such action could cease the needed planning and future existence of the Kealakehe Regional Park as well as other housing and job opportunities within area 35.
