Supervisor Aaron Peskin's Home Demolition Legislation (No. 181216) will stop middle-class, working class, and immigrant families in San Francisco from making the basic repairs and renovations to their homes.

By creating incredibly restrictive construction requirements and cost prohibitive bureaucratic hurdles, the Home Demolition Legislation would prevent many San Francisco families from being able to maintain and improve their homes.

The legislation impacts several renovation and repair projects that are critical to giving families a livable home in San Francisco:

  • Requires homeowners looking to make simple repairs, such as dry rot removal, to obtain Conditional Use authorization from the Board of Supervisors - adding thousands of dollars and months of time to critical projects.
  • Requires most repair and renovation projects that remove walls or floors to go before the Board of Supervisors for Conditional Use authorization, even if the removals are temporary.
  • Significantly increases the requirements the Board of Supervisors will enforce on homes applying for Conditional Use authorization - preventing many renovation and repair projects from being approved at all.

Plus, the legislation will clog SF's Planning Department permitting pipeline - delaying affordable housing projects for months and years.

In the midst of a housing crisis, we need to make the housing permitting process easier, not more complicated. Sign the petition and join homeowners, affordable housing advocates, and San Franciscans in opposing the Home Demolition Legislation!
