A special message from Diane:

Help! We have learned that a Proposed Project for Gaslight Square is on the 7/14/2022 Brea Olinda Unified School District (BOUSD) agenda for the School Board to give direction... Yes, Thursday, tomorrow night. 

An application has been filed with the City of Brea asking for zoning and general plan changes to allow drive-thru restaurants. The current zoning prohibits drive-thrus at Gaslight Square.  

Please write to BOUSD School Board ASAP telling them to reaffirm BOUSD's opposition to a drive-thru restaurant at Gaslight Square and keep the current zoning as is:

Things to consider reminding the School Board:

In February 2021 BOUSD School Board opposed the now defunct Raising Canes project proposal because of the risks to the Laurel students and families.

In August 2021, the City of Brea & BOUSD acknowledged the traffic, parking and safety problems at Laurel Elementary when they hired a consultant to study the problems. 

They have yet to decide on long-term solutions to improve the problems. 

Laurel's driveway is 30 feet across Flower Avenue from the Gaslight Square entrance to the proposed drive-thru. Remember 2020 projections were 6-times the traffic. 

In all actions as a school Board member, the member's first commitment is to the well-being of our youth. His/her primary responsibility is to every student in the District. (This is from Bylaws of the Board BB 9271 CODE OF ETHICS)

We know your time is precious, so please feel free to (virtually) dust-off your previous letter.. you can use this, whatever you choose.  What is most important is that they hear from you. NOW.
