Allowing Students to Express Themselves

My daughter was informed she would be suspended if we did not remove the hair dye from the tips of her hair. It’s against dress code policy. They really need to re-evaluate their policies.

In schools, students with hair colors deemed 'unnatural' are sent away and told to change it. Yet society, especially those in schools, are constantly telling students to express themselves and be confident in who they are. How can you tell people to let themselves be who they want, but get angry when they do?

Having colored hair is not a distraction. The only reason people care enough to talk about it is because it's against dress codes. If we take it out and make it possible for students to dye their hair, they will be happier and more free to express themselves.
