Ōpōtiki is a small town in the eastern bay of plenty. On average households have approx 4+ people living in the homes. The bins our town have been provided are the size of banana box’s - we are lucky to fit one black bag of rubbish in these bins. Most weeks families produce 2-3 black bags of rubbish. these bins are perfect for single person household, not families. We are provided 4 bins for different types of recycling and 1 for general rubbish. Once a week our general rubbish is taken and our recycling is taken fortnightly. These bins are not adequate for our community. The council have decided our rubbish will not be taken if the lid doesn’t close, or if the recycling exceeds the bin. I would love your help to get our people proper rubbish bins that we deserve. Majority of our town have babies in nappies and can fill the bins in a day. We all pay our rates, we all deserve a proper rubbish system.
