Letter of Urgent Concern
To: His Excellency United States President Joe Biden and State Department.
IN THE NAME OF ALLAH, THE MOST GRACIOUS AND THE MOST MERCIFUL
We write to you as academics, citizens and stakeholders of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan. We write; to express our acute concern towards and protest against the “..blatant interference against the internal affairs of Pakistan” as relaid to us by our National Security Council after convening on 31st March 2022.
Since time immemorial, the citizens of Pakistan have admired the principles of humanity and morality that the United States of America has stood up for. We have looked up to your nations conviction for upholding ideals of liberty, democracy and the right of self determination. Pakistan being an adherent of those same values, henceforth has always had cordial and amiable relations with your country.
It was not too long ago, the world witnessed your nations strong response against attempted external interference in your own democratic process back in 2016 and 2020. Where allegations of attempted and future interference lead to a long, but well fought trial of impeachment against then Republican President Donald J Trump.
The United Nations Charter too, makes it incumbent upon all its member states to “......refrain in their international relations from the threat or use of force against the territorial integrity or political independence of any State, or in any other manner inconsistent with the Purposes of the United Nations” Article 2 (4). Thus as a nation we find perplexing; your attempt to intimidate and consequently dictate how a sovereign nation such as Pakistan runs its state of affairs.
All acts and omissions on the part of your nation and it's government to destabilise, discredit and displace a democratically elected government, whether that be direct, or indirect are a threat to not only our national interest and integrity, but to your own fiduciary stature. This contradiction against the principles which your own nation holds so dear, must be curtailed.
We as an autonomous nation believe in the principles of merit and equality. We vehemently and unequivocally condemn this attempt to browbeat, pressurise and bulldoze the democratic instruments of our nation, we shall not succumb to these programs. We hope that our two nations shall continue a fruitful and equal friendship based on the very principles which are the root and stem of our social and moral fabric.
