Why this petition matters

Started by Greg Berry

The 39th ward is a beautiful area that allows home ownership and have access to Chicago for work, however it has a lack of access to a convenient dog park. Adding a dog park to the area would be a great way to meet the neighbors and build strong bonds of community; no matter our differences dog owners love to talk about their dogs.  With record number of animal adoptions in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, adding a dog park a simple avenue to improve the lives of our neighbors.  Please add your voice to the Project's page: https://www.participatepbchicago.org/processes/PB39/f/17/proposals/502

A dedicated off leash area has advantages for both pet owner and non-owner:

1) Dogs can play off leash without impacting other residents.

2) Dogs are allowed to socialize.  This will reduce aggression with dogs and improve on behavior while on a leash.

3) Cleaner walking areas as dog waste is contained.

4) Encourages visits to local business to facilitate trips to the park, as well as drive demand to small businesses.

5) Parks with facilities dedicated dog facilities have shown a decrease in crime.

6) Improve sense of community while building bonds within people who would have otherwise never had met.

The park would pay for itself quickly as Chicago DFA tags are required annually ($5).  My plan is to collect enough signatures to show the demand within our Ward and present to the Alderman and City of Chicago.  Please share this page on your social media page and spread the word!  Also, what's your dog's name?  I'd love to hear about the dogs in the area in the comments section.
