The Ontario Teacher's Pension Plan (OTPP) has billions of dollars in holdings. One of them is Alterra Wines. Alterra owns the Wine Rack stores in Ontario. Two weeks ago Wine Rack employees voted to give their union the (SIEU) the permission to strike. The vote was 84% in favour. Wine Rack workers are paid basically, poverty wages. They have no benefits, those that were promised 40 hours a week when signing on have their hours routinely cut, often by 25-40 percent. Their work schedules often change with very little notice. Because of these poor conditions the staff turnover is very high, leaving existing employees to train the new hires.It appears that the Wine Rack workers will begin the strike next week. Teachers receiving their pension from the OTPP plan live comfortly. So too should Wine Rack workers. Please support them.
